If you hate Dell read this. Dell are insane. A few years back I bought an r7 on sale. Marked down 500$ it seemed like a good deal just wanted to get something cheap for my girl. When I placed the order the pc specs included an aio. I unboxed that thing after waiting 4whole weeks for it. loudest pc I have ever heard, temps were horrible. Gpu was idling in the 70s and the cpu in the 60s, both reached 90-100 when I booted up a game. Crack it up just to notice they had removed the original aio and replaced it with a shitty intel stock fan with a really bad thermal paste job. My 1060 came with a full plastic blower. Ram sticks were naked, just the green chip, no heatsink or anything. Nowhere on my order did it say there was no aio, only later on when they sent me an invoice I saw that it wasn't included. Feels like since it was marked down 500$ they decided to downgrade components before sending it to me. Why else would it take 4 weeks to ship a prebuilt. Also their 12 no interest is a lie. It's interest advance as they call it. The minute your 12 months is over they charge you 30% interest of the original price. I tried paying of the pc 4-5months in a row. Called dell financial services everytime, said I wanted to pay the remaining balance, and they wouldn't accept using the credit card in my file. Or any card. They specifically asked me to mail them a void, then they wanted it faxed, then they wanted me to send an email with my void check. None of that worked and they kept charging me every month until the year was over. Also just so you guys understand the frustration, to get in touch with Dell financial services Canada I would have to be on hold at best 1h. They day I finaly got to pay it in full, I had been in the same call 4 hours. The first and last time I bought a PREBUILT. PLEASE NEVER BUY ALIENWARE OR DELL.

Dell has always been shit. People keep trying to tell me they've gotten better, but I have never known a Dell that A) didn't cost way more than its components B) lasted past a year, or C) was able to be fixed or upgraded when it inevitably bit it. Videos like this put the spot light right back on their problems.

I remember my first call to Dell Tech Support : (thick indian accent): "Hi thank you for calling Dell, my name is Roger how can I help you?" Me: "How am I supposed to trust you if you're going to start off the call with a blatant and obvious lie?" It's not that Indian Tech-Support workers are bad...but when Dell is paying them the equivalent of $3.35 an hour, they are (and by extension you are) getting exactly $3.35 an hour worth of tech-support. Which is to say NONE. You'd be better off standing on a street corner and shouting your problem at passing cars.

So has there been any public response from Dell on the issues raised in this video? I'm dealing with them on a laptop warranty issue, and after FOUR months of ongoing diagnosis, home visits, unanswered e-mails, and on and on...I can officially say: THEY ARE THE WORST. Seriously, how do they get away with completely unacceptable customer service practices? Probably because they deal in such bulk that a case like mine can be swept under the rug with literally zero consequence.

Dell is definitely the worst. Bought my laptop from them and I will never buy from them again. My laptop started having wireless issues about 9 months in. I contacted support to get a replacement under warranty, but it was a never end cycle of useless phone calls and copy-pasted emails. They managed to stall the last 3 months of the warranty and then basically gave me a "too bad, you're warranty is expired now" response. It's a terrible brand with terrible hardware and worse support.

I really like the iBuy setup. I'd really like to try building it, but as my first gaming PC is it better to go with their assembly/warranty/tech-support? I remember they had a low mark-up but just curious if building a PC is as easy and Linus and the crew make it seem? Also really like the Maingear, but what would you upgrade in order to compete with the iBuy performance?

I hate how many large companies Dell has somehow convinced into only buying their products. Our younger IT guys at work game and love AMD stuff and when I asked about AMD powered workstations they said “not an option through dell so you’ll never see us buy anything AMD powered here.” They will go the way of intel by completely ignoring the consumer markets and resting on big corporate demand as if it will exist forever.

Your Dell criticism was appropriately harsh given how infuriatingly bad they were. I'm glad you didn't water down the verdict as that would have been extremely frustrating to stomach after how terribly the rep behaved. I was throwing my hands up in disbelief and, like you, anger at how terrible their constant financing and warranty harassment was. And that tech support was hopeless.

To be fair to HP, though their throttling issues are unfortunate, they still performed very comparably to CyberpowerPC (and not far off iBuyPower), with an overall difference of a couple of a few percentage points either way depending on the game. Great series - I think next time you might want to 1)try multiple different price points and/or 2)rank them on different use cases

When I was young, the best company was Dell, they had the best computers and customer service, but somewhere around 15 years ago, they became pretty bad. My uncle was an electrical engineer, and he built PCs in his free time, and the only companies he liked that pre-built the computers was Howard Industries (A local company that makes transformers for electrical companies mainly) and Dell. That was almost 20 years ago, though.
